This might be the perfect role for you if…

  • You’re passionate about youth development, education, or childcare (or all of the above!)

  • You can meet the school year and summer schedules

  • You posses qualities that make you a relational role model

First things first: What’s Club?
Since 1865, Boys & Girls Clubs (aka Club) has been making positive impacts in the lives of kids and teens. Today, we’re a global movement, reaching nearly 3.6 million young people in over 5,000 locations worldwide! Right here in Rochester, we’re proud to have 4 amazing Club sites, offering out-of-school programs designed to meet unique educational and health needs. We currently serve about 300 children and teens (aka members) and their families.

What’s the Role?
Club has 4 positive outcomes areas that serve as the north star for how we serve our members: 1) Health & Well-being, Character & Leadership, 3) Academic Success, and 4) Life & Workforce Readiness. YDPs help Club make these positive outcome areas a reality, you'll be the ultimate guide, mentor, and fun-maker for a group of awesome members! You’ll lead activities, spark imaginations, and build strong, supportive relationships — all while keeping things safe, exciting, and fresh.

Location + Grades
We are currently hiring for our Club Site that’s based out of Riverside Central Elementary (506 5th Ave SE, Rochester, MN 55904). While YDPs are usually assigned to work with specific grade levels, YDPs are expected to work with any elementary grade level. Additionally, site assignments are subject to occasional change based on coverage needs, school closures, and summer schedule. Club will always strive to work with you on agreeable grade and site assignments.

Working Schedules
This is a year-round position. School year Club programs run Monday through Friday, from 1:30pm to 8pm during the school year, with full day programming during the summer and school breaks. If desired, there will be occasional opportunities to work past 5:30pm during the school year, as staff are dismissed from their shift on a rotating basis based on evening attendance. Preference will be given to applicants with full weekday availability from 1:30pm to at least 5:30pm during the school year, and afternoon availability during the summer. If you have a specific site or schedule need, please note it when you apply! As champions of development, YDPs are also expected to participate in monthly trainings that are typically held at The Place.

What Does the Day-to-Day Look Like?

  • Safety First: The most important job a YDP has is keeping members safe and supervised. This means ensuring members have staff eyes on them at all times and that the Club environment is positive, clean, and welcoming.

  • Program Planning & Execution: Design and implement curriculum and activities – while keeping the 4 positive outcome areas weaved into programming and interactions. You’ll have an awesome team helping you with this.

  • Youth Development: Be a mentor and positive role model — guide members in building life skills, self-confidence, leadership abilities, and a sense of belonging.

  • Be a Problem Solver: Handle any challenges (including behavioral) with creativity and care, ensuring a positive, respectful space for everyone.

  • Flexibility + Staying Levelheaded: Working with children and teens is about as meaningful of a job there is. It can be a ton of fun. It also comes with daily challenges that require teamwork, adaptability, and patience! No two days are the same.

What You’ll Need:

  • You must be 18+ years old.

  • High School Diploma/GED usually required, but we may consider applicants who are actively pursuing completion of either or can demonstrate other commitments to education and trades!

  • Prior experience working with young people, parents, schools, and or community leaders – either in a paid or volunteer capacity.

  • Commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts. It’s who we are!

  • Ability to stand, sit, and move around for extended periods (we’re active and hands-on!).

  • Able to lift up to 30 lbs (have we mentioned we’re active?)

  • Reliable transportation to your work site, including a monthly trip to The Place and possible different site assignment during summers and school breaks.

Bonus Points If You Have:

  • Prior experience at a Boys & Girls Club (or similar youth-serving organization), either as a staff member or a participant.

  • A background in creating activities that are developmentally appropriate for kids.

  • CPR, AED, and First Aid certification (we’ll help you get this if you don’t already have them).

Don’t Hold Back:
If you have a passion for making a real difference – even if you don’t meet every qualification – we still want to hear from you! Research shows that many candidates may not apply if they don’t meet every single requirement, but if this job excites you, please apply! We’re all about balancing experience with potential.

The Perks:
In addition to a competitive wage and some flexibility with scheduling, YDPs accrue PTO, can participate in a 401k plan, take advantage of Club trainings as part of professional development, and receive a free Club membership for any household dependents.
